Glycemic Index: For Diabetes Not Your Investment Portfolio

The Glycemic Index is not a mutual fund, but low glycemic foods can help drop your A1c like the stock market.

The glycemic index is a dietary tool to help people rank carbohydrate containing foods and determine the impact they could have on blood sugar. Foods with a high glycemic index will cause blood sugar to rise faster and higher than foods with a low glycemic index. Replacing high glycemic foods with low glycemic foods resulted in significant improvements in blood sugar control over 2 weeks to 6 months in people with type 2 diabetes.

So if you are asking what foods should I eat to help improve diabetes or prediabetes? Consider swapping out your high glycemic foods for low glycemic foods. Below you will find information regarding the glycemic index of some common foods.

To help people find success with nutrition and dietary treatments for prediabetes and diabetes, I meet with all new patients for 60 minutes to understand who you are and then develop a personalized meal plan with all the tools for success. This includes grocery lists, meal prep guide, and cooking instructions. Meals are tailored to your dietary pattern, such as keto, DASH, Mediterranean, and plant-based.
